Story: The Childhood of a Leader starts as we meet a family Mother (Bejo), Father (Cunningham) and son Prescott (Sweet). They are living in a post-World War I world, where Prescott is showing signs of becoming difficult in his privileged life.
Elsewhere, we meet Charles (Pattinson) a connection of the Father. Meanwhile, Prescott is showing an alarming side of the desire for power. This continues to show how controlling Prescott became of the people around him, causing problems in everyday life.
Verdict on The Childhood of a Leader
The Childhood of a Leader is a drama showing the raising of a young boy during the war. It shows us how he ends up getting caught up in a family torn by power, leading to him desiring it himself.
The way this movie is shown keeps everything drawn back. It doesn’t seem to make it clear which leader he becomes though. However, I know the idea is more about showing a selection of different dictators it could have been. The movie has strong performances from the whole cast. It seems to focus on the raising of impending doom, rather than showing what could have been done better.
Final Thoughts – The Childhood of a Leader is a bit of a flat drama struggling to make the impact it wants to.
