The Candle Family – Love Theme From Two Hearts

Posted on the 24 November 2013 by Pelski

Straight-up slo-mo funk here from The Candle Family, an elusive musical duo brought together by their mutual love for obscure disco records. Love Theme From Two Hearts, the first release on their Unforgettable Music label, was released last year but only now finds its way onto a digital platform. The A-side is nine minutes of lush disco instrumentation – low-swung and extra funky. Across its leisurely running time, squelching bass, terse conga percussion, swooping strings, trumpets, piano keys – and just about every other staple of disco music – come together for a gloriously opulent disco burner.

While ‘Nine Beats Per Minutes’ doesn’t quite deliver on its title’s promise – it’s more like 60 beats per minute – it certainly sounds a million miles away from the buttoned-down approach of its predecessor. Here we have a lumbering experimental piece, all crashing cymbals, shimmering synths and wonky bass.

A sexy, sultry disco EP well worth your time.
