The Busy Mom’s Cleaning Guide

Being a super mom and keeping a clean home can be a daunting task, but there is something you can do about it. You don’t have to spend your evenings in hours of dusting and scrubbing. Here are a few tips that will help you organize your cleaning chores better and let you spend some quality time with your family!

Create a cleaning schedule

Have you ever come home, seen the mess and didn’t know where to start? Having a weekly cleaning schedule can help you save time, focus better and probably set your weekends free.

There are so many schedules you can use, but here is the one I like most:

Monday – Bathrooms

Even if it looks like a daunting task to clean the bathroom, if you do this every week, there won’t be much to clean, right? There are four main things you need to go over. Toilets, Sinks, Tub/Shower and floor. Set 5min for each and you will be amazed!

Tuesday – Vacuuming

Simply go over with your vacuum trough every room in your home. Don’t spend too much time on it. Just enough to make sure that you are walking on dirt-free and hair-free carpets.

Wednesday – Floors

Mop the floors. No one likes to see dust on their gorgeous hardwood floors or stains on the kitchen tiles. Once a week is more than enough.

Thursday – Dust

Dust can cause irritations and allergies, so the sooner you get rid of it – the better for you and your family’s health! Having clean air is so important! Take your duster or just a wet microfiber towel and run it over the furniture in the living room and bedroom.

Friday – Declutter

If you and your kids don’t put things where they belong it will be just a matter of time before you step on a lego. I don’t have to tell you how much it hurts, right? Get a few buckets, glue a few hangers and put everything where it’s supposed to be.

Saturday and Sunday – Free

After a hard week of work, you deserve some free time. If you missed a day from the weekly schedule you can always use the weekend to make up for it.

Now that you have a schedule, it does not have to mean that you need to make your home spotless. Don’t spend too much time trying to bring your home to perfection. If you clean for at least 20min each day you will make your job so much easier. Don’t overdo it, just do enough so that you can live in a reasonably clean home. Once a month you can do a deep cleaning, but then you can involve your whole family.

Dishes and Laundry

Don’t let your dishes pile up or your laundry basket overflow. You can do this every day. Turn on your washers and let them do their work. It will take you a few minutes to load and unload.

Get your kids involved

Okay, you can’t expect your kids to clean the whole house, but they can always help. You should establish some ground rules like putting back everything where it belongs. As they grow older you can give them more complex tasks such as doing the dishes or cleaning the windows. Just make sure to assign age-appropriate chores.

The best thing of all is that you actually teach your kids manners and responsibility. Giving chores to children from a young age can help them develop into successful adults.

Automate what’s possible

Imagine you come home from work and the first thing you need to do is take out the old vacuum and run it around your home. Who wants that after a long day of work?

Now imagine you come home and someone already did that for you? And by someone I mean something. Have you ever considered getting a robot vacuum? There are many different models out there so you don’t have to spend much to get a good one. Simply program it, and let it do your work. Meanwhile, spend some quality time with your family. That is the most important thing!

Tackle stains right away

Let’s be real, having kids means having stains everywhere. If you neglect them they will become much harder to remove and you’ll waste much more time, energy and money on cleaning supplies. Whenever your kids spill something, get to it right away.

Don’t waste money

If you go to your local store you can see different cleaning solutions for each room, appliance or even stains. And if you buy all these you’ll end up wasting so much money. Sometimes it’s better to just go back to basics and try vinegar and baking soda. These two household items can save you so much money and time. I use them in most of my cleaning tasks and they do an amazing job!
