The British Street Food Awards, Newcastle

Anything relating to food usually grabs my attention fairly quickly, so when I heard about the British Street Food Awards and found the North/Scotland heat was taking place in Newcastle, I headed along.Celebrating the best food from the North and Scotland, the heat took place in the Boiler Shop, Newcastle, home to the monthly steamer events. At £5 per ticket for an adult, it was modestly priced, especially when each ticket included your vote and a free drink voucher, which in hindsight you'd paid for through your ticket.

Of course my favourites, Fat Hippo Underground were there, alongside some interesting new food stalls I'd never seen before. Bangwok, Scream For Pizza, Fire and Salt, Bangers and Bacon (who spotted me taking a photo of them!) Claw Hide, The Pickled Porker, Papa Ganoush (which were also at the Emirates Hello East event I visited), Kukoos, Riley's Fish Shack (which unfortunately was only just setting up as we left) and of course some good old ice cream, Crème Brûlée from a campervan and plenty of drinks to choose from too.

Out of the North and Scotland heat, Riley's Fish Shack was crowned the winner; heading to the final in London. I'm sure the competition will be fierce, but it's great that the awards have toured all areas of the country to make sure the they've got the best in the final.
