The British Isles, Gateway Books, & Quicksilver — #SundaySalon

By Joyweesemoll @joyweesemoll

Good morning!

Time: // 9:06 am.

The scene: // It’s going to be a gray day, but no complaints after last week’s wild weather in the Midwest. In less than 24 hours, the storm radio went off something like 8 times. The worst at our house was hail and wind, but University City (a favorite place for quirky shops, casual restaurants, a great library, and an old movie theater) got a tornado. I’ll take gray and calm.

Listening to: // The Spotify playlist that user mandapig made of the 50s songs that are heard in Call the Midwife.

A book I’m using to reset my healthy lifestyle routines.

Reading: // It’s actually starting to feel like I will one day finish the chunkster, Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson — maybe in the coming week. My evening book is The Diet Fix by Yoni Freedhoff. I’m working through it to help me establish a better routine for maintaining my weight loss.

Blogging about: // Did you see last week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic on “gateway books?” My TBR list grew while hopping those. Some of the new-to-me books were ones that I feel like I should have known about and read long ago.

Participating in// Thanks for all your help, suggestions, and encouragement last week as I contemplated the idea of Anglophile Friday. I changed the name to British Isles Friday and started it last week. We had a great first week – check out the links for recipes, trip photos, Downton Abbey commentary, Sherlock in books and on TV, a genealogy adventure, book reviews, and a description of tea with the Queen (no kidding!). It’s not too late to join us. Do you have a favorite British-themed post on your blog? Share it!

What are you up to this fine Sunday?
