Breakfast is the meal of the day I love the most…While in London, I wanted to try what is considered to be the best place for breakfast. A favorite among many is The Breakfast Club and after seeing their mouthwatering images on Instagram, I thought this place, named after one of the 80′s most popular movies, is definitely a place worth trying… we decided to skip lunch that day and go enjoy a hefty breakfast instead.
Spitalfields Breakfast Club, despite being in one of the busiest areas in London, can be easy to miss to those not in the know. Tucked away on a side street opposite Liverpool Street Station, the outside of The Breakfast Club is a little less obvious than the bright egg-yolk yellow frontages of the other cafes. Once inside, the usual Breakfast Club quirks are present; from the famous neon “Sex, Drugs & Bacon Rolls” sign to the Sega Mega Drive console.
This visit was just for the pancakes and nothing but the pancakes, so I think we can’t consider it a complete review for now.
I loved the place and the positive vibes it irradiated. In this funky industrial design space, people come here for fun and laughter. Around rugged wooden tables, metallic chairs, wood benches, neon lights and metallic walls, this place will transport you into the heart of Route 66.
The decoration is typically fast breakfast:
- A corridor leads you to the restaurant where photos are installed on both sides with the word “club” written in large lit letters
- Washed out concrete floor
- Low white ceiling
- To the right is a long bar covered with black tiles
- Behind the bar, a neon light installed on a wood board spelt out “the breakfast club”
- At the restaurant’s very end, another neon light with “bacon rolls on”
- Yellow and red are used a lot around the place
- Every table is well lit by a lamp above it
We ordered:
The waitresses are not too welcoming for a place like that. I imagined something like the ones at Applebee’s or TGi Fridays dancing and milling and having fun, the place needs it. I, on the other hand, enjoyed my hot coffee so much which stayed hot until the end of the meal.
Yes, breakfast was excellent and the ambiance as well. This is an address for great pancakes.
