Story: The Boogeyman starts when the Harper family Dr Will Harper (Messina), Sadie (Thatcher) and Sawyer (Blair) are dealing with their own trauma. They have started looking to move on after their wife and mother’s sudden death. However, when one of Dr Harper’s patience comes to him with a story, they find themselves dealing with a fresh danger.

Sadie and Sawyer both start getting visited by a terrifying creature. This leads to Sadie investigating what is happening before the creature takes them too.

Verdict on The Boogeyman

The Boogeyman is a horror mystery thriller following a grief-stricken family trying to deal with a new threat in the darkness. They find themselves haunted by something they don’t understand and can’t explain. As they find themselves in a race to survive.

This is an excellent use of grief mixed with evil connecting to a family. The two aspects work so well together and this story manages to excel at this. When it comes to the use of lighting, we get creative and inventive ideas. Most notable is the video game sequence. However, it does lead to a bigger question about why they don’t just put the lights on after the first incident. When it comes to the creature, it is a terrifying creation ripped from anyone’s worst nightmare.

Sophie Thatcher is brilliant in the leading role, she is the star. Although Vivien Lyra Blair does a wonderful job as the young sister. She is put through some of the more horrific moments of the movie. Overall, The Boogeyman is a disturbing, terrifying movie that feels like a mix of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and last year’s ‘Smile’.
