The Best Thing, Sacha EP Release, Q&A and 5 Quick Questions

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Ontario country singer-songwriter is here with a brand new EP with six songs that she can't wait for you to hear. The Best Thing is a collection of work that includes the 2018 single Good Times Going (that put her on our radar) and her most recent single Cheers.

At just under 20 minutes, the EP goes quickly and is likely to have you reaching for the play button again.

Two summers ago we saw her on stage at Boots & Hearts and after seeing her perform, I wrote that Sacha "was confident and brought everything she had and made a strong case for us to see her again at Boots, and on a lot of other stages in the near future." And I stand by it!

To celebrate the release of The Best Thing EP, we caught up with Sacha for a Q&A and her very first round of 5 Quick Questions with us. Take a look and learn about her writing process, making this EP, her influences and find out what she shared when we asked for something we couldn't find on Google!

But first, hit play to check out the new video for Cheers from The Best Thing.

And now, check out our Q&A with Sacha.

1) Can you tell us a little more about the EP? If you had to describe the vibe of the music or the sound that you were aiming for?

Sacha) I would have to say that this EP covers a little bit of everything in terms of the theme and song selection. There's a song for everyone. From a production standpoint, I had the opportunity to work with Dan Swinimer and did he ever do a creative number on this one! The album is infused with elements relative in rock, pop and maybe even to say a bit of funk where the single "Cheers" is concerned. Altogether making things new and exciting, but still keeping it Country!

2) Do you have any habits or rituals when it comes time to writing or recording? Do you have to have a notebook or computer or coffee or lemon water or anything like that? Take us into your process a little bit!

Sacha) When it comes to writing there is no one formula nor ritual. It tends to happen quite organically for the most part. I could be singing a little diddy that is inaudible but feels special to me, and I'll pull out my iPhone and record a voice memo so I don't forget the melody. I generally return to the voice memo with my guitar and what started out as gibberish all of a sudden is brought to life with words that make up a verse chorus and so on and so forth. There are also instances where I am driving or taking my dog out on a walk or looking up at the stars and a word will come to me, or an idea where instantly I know its a song title, or if percolated for a little bit becomes the core of a song.

3) When it comes to your music, as a singer, writer, performer, businesswoman, etc., who do you count as influences of your style and career?

Sacha) I've always admired Taylor Swift and her unique ability from a young age to hone her craft, learn how to become a skillful songwriter, performer and entrepreneur.

4) Equality and representation in music have been important issues to you in your career. Do you feel like country music is headed in the right direction right now as we all recognize a need to do more and do better?

Sacha) I am optimistic that country music will make room for an artist such as myself. Being Canadian and knowing that Canada thrives off of diversity and prides ourselves in the matters of equality and inclusion, I can only hope for the music industry to be a direct representation of those Canadian values.

5) Last one for a little something extra, can you tell us all something that we wouldn't find on your social channels or in a Google search. (example: a hidden talent)

Sacha) Painting and drawing is a pastime that I would like to resurrect. Sewing and designing clothing is another faucet of my creativity that has been recently activated.

The Best Thing is a strong offering from Sacha and one that she should be proud to present as an emerging voice on the Canadian country music scene. Fans that have heard and seen her before know that she's got what it takes, and now she's taking the next steps to get to the next level.

Congrats to her for making these songs and this EP. And thank you to her for taking the time to record this edition of 5 Quick Questions from the comfort of her home.
