In 2015 we're addressing another popular promise:this year I will do more culture!
Well we're always pleased to help here at The DC. This January & February will be dedicated to pointing London Walkers and Daily Constitutionalists in the direction of LONDON'S BEST MUSEUMS.
We've canvassed the London Walks guides, asking them to nominate their desert island museum and we'll be posting their responses throughout the month.
As usual, you are more than welcome to join in! Get in touchvia Facebook, orTwitteror viathe usual email address.
Daily Constitutional Editor Adam writes...
I need precious little encouragement to blog about The Grant Museum of Zoology.
Whenever a London Walker siddles up to me and asks, in that delicious, conspiratorial way, for a secret, off-the-beaten track thing to do in London, the Grant is always top of my list.
It's not one of your flashy Hollywood museums - in film terms, it's more an arthouse cult classic. Which is all the more reason for you to take yourself down to Gower Street and have a look for yourselves. The fact that it's a teaching museum - the last of its kind in London for zoology - dictates its opening hours, 1pm to 5pm, but it's a small inconvenience for the vast rewards inside
They've got a Quagga. A whatta? A sub-species of zebra hunted into extinction, that's what. There are only six other known quagga skeletons in the world and the Grant's is currently part of a programme of restoration and protection (you can find out more about that, and a fundraising campaign to help the restoration HERE.)
Here at the DC we always blog about the Grant at this time of year because they host the BEST Valentine's night events in London. Tickets are £5 on the door (no need to book) and the price of admission includes a glass of wine. Bring your love and fall in love with a fantastic museum this Saturday.
Here's an audio intro to the collection...
