The Bathtub Bomb

By Jerry At Ays

Here’s a fun little experiment to try on a dreary day!

All you need is a plastic zip-lock bag, some vinegar, and a little baking soda.

You may remember that these two everyday chemicals produce carbon dioxide gas when mixed.

Take a square of bathroom tissue and put a teaspoon or two of baking soda on it. Bring the corners up and twist it into a little packet.

Half-seal the zip-lock and tuck the packet in the closed top corner of the bag. Now, carefully pour a half-cup or so of vinegar into the bag and seal the top completely.

Don’t let the vinegar touch the packet until you get to the bathtub and toss it in (or toss it outside on the lawn.)

When the packet hits the vinegar, the bag will fill with carbon dioxide gas, blowing up like a balloon until it either bursts the sides of the bag or the zip seal.

It usually makes a real nice pop when it does!

Oh, go ahead… make another one.  I did.
