Freshly roasted coffee from The Barn at Cafe Kranzler

This famous West Berlin café has been given a new lease of life has become the flagship store of renowned Berlin coffee roasters, The Barn.

History

Café Kranzler originally opened in 1834 on the Unter den Linden boulevard with a sun terrace, an ice-cream parlour and a smokers room, unfortunately, this building was destroyed during World War II. The Charlottenburg branch was opened in 1932, in the rooms of the former Café des Westens on Kurfürstendamm. This operated ran until the building's destruction in 1945. After the war, the business was resumed at the site in 1951.

The current flat-roofed Kranzler-Eck building was constructed in 1957/58 and became a go-to spot in West Berlin. The end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Café Kranzler struggled and the business discontinued.

Now The Barn is making use of the stunning red-and-white-striped turreted building with its 360-degree views over the Kudamm and two summer terraces, this is once again a must-do when in Berlin.

Worth getting lost in Superdry for. Excellent coffee and tea as well as fresh sandwiches, rolls and sweet treats. It's pricey but worth it for the setting.

TL;DR

+excellent views
+fresh and tasty food and drink
-a bit confusing on how to get in
