The Barest Of Burgers

By Yonni @vegandthecity

I love when vegans talk about burger joints - on the surface it seriously makes no sense.  But do you know about Bareburger?  It's a game changer.
Let me be clear.  There is meat on the menu, but you know from reading this that I am the only vegan among my family and the majority of my friends, so I do eat in places that are not usually vegan-only establishments.  Even if I wanted to do that, which is remarkably tempting, I would have very very few options.
On Monday of Columbus Day weekend, my son and I met close family friends in Great Neck at that Bareburger location.  I'd never been but it was a good midway location between both of our homes, and with three boys between us, and a daughter too, this seemed a good way to go.
Bareburger is a chain in NY and NJ that sells, ironically enough, burgers.  But where the bare comes in is in the ingredients ~ organic products, and many gluten free and vegan options.
Sweet potatoes, which were amazing, are just one of those vegan pleasure on the menu, as was the carrot cake.  But let's talk burgers after all...how about a quinoa or a mushroom or the one I chose, black bean?  Yup - all vegan.  And for a bun?  You could choose a wrap, or a multi-grain, or what I chose, lettuce!  I went and topped that juice, tasty burger with sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions and what else, vegan cheddar! Can you get a more guilt-free burger than that?  Yeah, I did have the fries but they were sweet potato that that has to count for something...
I also want to let you know the service was great - super friendly and accommodating.  Admittedly, I did tell them I was a food writer so some people who have had less stellar service said that may have helped, and it might, but I was happy with it and, if you're by one of their locations, hope you would be too!
Have a great weekend ~ hope you eat something tasty!
