Another week of hot releases, just in time for the first official week of summer! The Felice Brothers have just released their fifth album, Life in the Dark, continuing their energetic exploration of the modern folk-americana sound. Deerhoof’s The Magic is equal parts sugar-sweet melodies and experimental arrangements (which punctuate each song with a sharp edge) and The Avett Brothers have returned with arguably their most personal album to date, including songs with orchestral accompaniments and electrified synthesizers. Young Mister’s self-titled debut album shows promise for many more breezy summer anthems to come and Father Daughter Records’ latest DIY prodigy Lisa Prank has shared Adult Teen, a sonic display of scrappy pop-punk lyrics and guitar. Australian duo Oh Pep! just released upbeat Stadium Cake rife with Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs’ perfect vocal harmonies, and Marian Hill’s sophomore album Act One once again showcases the band’s unique blend of sparse electronic beats with slow, seductive vocals. Broods’ new album Unconscious delivers a collection of new electro-pop songs, serving as a soundtrack for our late summer nights. Last but not least, Jenny Lewis’ killer new project with Tennessee Thomas of The Like and Erika Forster of Au Revoir Simone, Nice As F*uck, released their surprise debut album today! Be sure to follow our Week’s Top Releases playlist to keep up with weekly updates of our favorites!
