Madison, Indiana: The Attic and Coffee Mill Cafe
Now in its third generation of ownership, The Attic has been serving the community since 1971! Adding on Coffee Mill Cafe has only increased their popularity.
Known for desserts from creative cupcakes to homemade pies, this Indiana town coffee shop/gift shop is also known for something a bit unusual for a small Indiana town: Gelato.
Artisan made, it is cool, creamy, and delicious! At any given time there are six flavors to choose among. They range from Key Lime Pie to Tiramisu, from Vanilla Toffee Crunch to Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. My favorite was the Cookies and Cream. Or the Strawberry Sorbetto. That’s a tough choice!
Kid #1 was a huge fan of the Birthday Cake Gelato. With bits of colorful sprinkles mix in, it’s really fun–and delicious!

But of course, like I always say, an Indiana coffee shop is only as good as its coffee! Fortunately, Coffee Mill Cafe does wondrous things.
There’s more than just your basic cup of coffee here. Cappuccino, Mocacchino, Espresso, Chai tea (my personal favorite), and even Hot Chocolate all have their place on the menu.
You can’t miss the glass jars packed full of whole bean coffee. With various coffee flavors and blend that include selections like Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Raspberry, and Highlander Grog, this shop smells good! Look for special seasonal selections as well–does Caramel Apple, S’mores, and Pumpkin Spice sound tasty or what?
Sit back and relax at one of the booths inside and browse through a nice selection of packaged gourmet foods from pestos to pastas to cookies. Or, head outside and watch the town from your perch on a fun and colorful chair!

Located a bit down from the Jefferson County Courthouse area, little Indiana and family gladly ditched the car. When you are in a town as lovely as Madison, it’s a joy to walk!
There’s plenty to see inside The Attic and Coffee Mill Cafe. Stop inside and see for yourself–and if you are in the mood for gelato, I can’t think of a better place to go.
