The Ancient Barbeque, Goodearth City Center, Gurgaon

By Rohit Dassani

The Ancient Barbeque opened a store in Gurgaon at Goodearth City Center. They only serve buffet and soon would be getting their liquor license. The concept of on the table grill might be borrowed but the taste of the items really matters. The ambiance is again same as that of Barbeque Nation or Pirates of Grill. The place is huge with large screen projectors to showcase sport events. Like the music being played here. The menu here changes slightly day after day.

The buffet has an option for a complimentary drink so we ordered the Virgin Mojito and the Masala Cola. The drinks were outstanding especially the Masala Cola as it was a blend of unique ingredients. On the Grill items were Cinnamon Grilled Pineapples, Sabz Malai Kurkuri, Soya Shaslik and Malai Broccoli. The Pineapples lacked any taste of Cinnamon but were sweet and juicy. The Malai Broccoli would just melt in your mouth. There was an option to add different dips and flavors to these grills as well. The on the grill items were less compared to other similar outlets. We missed any item related to Mushroom here.

They also had Panner Tikka Jalandhari, Mayo Corn, Salsa Potato’s and Shammi Kebab. The Panner Tikka was ok but the Mayo Corn was outstanding. The Shammi Kebab as well as the Salsa Potato’s was my favorite. These grilled items are served with raw onions and green chutney. The green chutney was flavorful but could have been better.

We then went for the main course. There was a soup but we didn’t try it. The salads counter was fabulous. The Russian salad and the Pineapple really stands out. We tried the Pasta which was good. We also tried the Veg Hakka Noodles and the Mixed Veg in Hakka Sauce, also good.

For curries we had the Panner Multani and Saunfiani Aloo. The curries were ok. For breads we had Butter Naan which were soft inside and crispy on the top. The Kashmiri Palao and the Dal Makhani were out of the world and went really well.

Next came the Desserts. For desserts we had the Gulab Jamun, Chocolate Nut brownie, Moong Dal Halwa, Cakes. The Gulab Jamun just melted in the mouth whereas the Moong Dal Halwa was classical. The Chocolate Nut brownie was also great. The sawai Kheer would be my favorite item in this entire array. The Mango Jelly was worth trying.

The service was good but the buffet is a little expensive.

The Scorecard:-
Food/Taste – 8/10
Service – 7/10
Value for Money – 7/10
Ambiance – 8/10
Quantity/Quality – 8/10

Borrowed concept but the food is great! Must have desserts!
