Story: The After Dark starts as we meet Master Vigo (Heath) and his elitist group of vampires living a solitary life from the world. However, one of the youngest members, Beth (Ballou), is tired of being kept from the world. Elsewhere, Dax (Bodhi) has brought his punk rock band of vampires back to the city looking for new victims.
Vigo wants the problem solved; Beth is the only vampire Dax doesn’t know. He sends Beth to solve the problem when she meets the punk rock vampire Jack (Saxton). Jack opens Beth’s eyes to a different world, which causes Vigo and Dax to reignite their ancient rivalry.
Verdict on The After Dark
The After Dark is a horror comedy following the youngest member of a vampire clan who learns of a more open one, she could join. However, it brings war between the two sides, and she falls for a rival clan member.
The best way to describe this movie is Romeo & Juliet as vampires. It uses the idea that two vampires from enemy clans fall in love leading to a battle between both sides. The movie uses the two biggest tropes of vampires, an elitist high society group and a rebellious punk group to show the different sides. It shows the different worlds and how both could work in harmony, but never together. We get a chance to see former WWE superstar Gangrel appear as the leader of a group of vampires, which sends you down memory lane. When it comes to the effects, we get the low-budget ones which work for the movie and if you like punk music, you will love the majority of the setting in the punk vampire base.
Final Thoughts – The After Dark is a fun wacky vampire meets Romeo & Juliet story.
