The 3rd Pyromusical Competition: China and the Netherlands

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy
On our second week of covering the 3rd Philippine Internatonal Pyromusical Competition, we witnessed how China and the Netherlands set the Manila skies ablaze. Everyone who was with us that night agreed that both China and the Netherlands gave a great show, and one of the two countries could cinch the top prize in the competition. Read more…

First up was the defending champion from last year’s competition, China. The People’s Republic was represented by Liuyang Jinsheng Fireworks Co. Ltd., which has been in the industry for 30 years. With their decades of expertise and experience, they have scooped several accolades, among them the championship at the 13th Macau Fireworks Performance.

The second team was The Royal Fireworks of the Netherlands, a company compliant with the Dutch and German CE mark. Assuring quality and  strict adherence to safety standards with their products, they are a recognized pyrotechnics expert all over Europe.

Close Up Philippines also had a special fireworks exhibition between the competing teams to the song, Closer You and I. They are also giving away free silver tickets or discounts towards higher-priced ones with a 100 PHP Close Up purchase. Know more from this post.

Verdict: Perhaps the throngs of people were expecting that China was the sole highlight of the night, but the Netherlands gave them a run for their money. The Netherlands was so good that I thought the organizers should have made them another night’s highlight. I would also give them plus points for using Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain. However, what sets China apart from the other teams was their culture factor and storytelling. Given these and the fact that they showcased a myriad of colorful fireworks in commendable synchronicity to the music, they still are the winner for me. It was a close fight, though.

The 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition happens every 7PM Saturday night until March 17, 2012 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay. For ticketing information and schedules, visit www.pyrophilippines.com.
