Many men enjoy sporting colorful suits, as they can look great and make for perfect conversation starters. With the right dose of confidence, any man can rock a colorful suit. Red, purple, pink or orange, solid or patterned, a suit can make a great addition to any man's closet, as colorful suits are great way to express your personality, taste and interests.
However, there are a few rules you should consider when it comes to rocking a colorful suit.
Here they are:
If you are not able to find a suit that will fit you off the rack (most men can't find this), you should buy a suit in a bigger size and go to a tailor to have it altered according to your size. Once you see how you look and feel in a suit that is exactly your size, you will never be able to wear a suit that is a different size again.
Colorful suits are usually more appropriate during the day, but they also go in the evening. Warm colors (red, orange, yellow, etc.), especially chalky/pastel warm colors are best suited for the day, while cool colors (purple, blue, green, etc.) work for daytime but for nighttime as well. Shiny suits should generally be kept for the evening, while matte suits go for both day and evening.
Always consider the fact that a colorful suit will make you stand out and think whether you want to stand out at the event at which you are going.
One more thing to consider is that if you are a one-suit guy, we don't recommend investing in a colorful suit. Your colorful suit should be your third, fourth, etc. suit. Your main go-to suit should be a charcoal, navy or gray suit, as these go anywhere, and you should always have another back-up suit, which can be brown, black or white. Afterwards, you can go crazy, but you should always remember that certain colors go better on certain skin complexions than others.
When you are wearing a colorful suit, you should always remember to incorporate the colors of your accessories in the overall color scheme of your outfit. A very colorful suit is most likely to be put in a good light if you wear neutral accessories. Remember that metals are neutrals and that they go with anything and with each other (meaning that you can wear both a golden watch and a silver chain) and they go with any color.
Also, if you are wearing a colorful suit, you should incorporate your shoes, tie, pocket square, etc. (as well as your shirt) in the color scheme you are creating.
The bottom line is that once you have your navy or charcoal suits lined up, you can always make good use of a colorful shirt in your wardrobe. Worn as it is or broken down into separates, a colorful suit can add a lot of charm to your look. And, as we always say, if you look good, you will definitely feel good, which is one of the main reasons why you should invest in your style and appearance.
