That Tops the Cake- Choosing Your Cake Topper

By Innstilettos

A few million years ago when I got married, a woman who I worked with bought me my wedding cake topper.  We were very close work friends and I was completely taken back when I opened the neatly wrapped box and saw a beautiful hand blown glass heart with doves and flowers.  It sounds gaudy when described in words but it was very pretty. The light glistened off the many facets of the twisted glass.  More than anything, it was such a sweet gesture from a friend I thought the world of.

While those toppers are still available, there are some very funny toppers that not only fit the space on top of the cake but also share a little bit about the bride and groom.  I enjoyed so much looking as these and marveled at the creativity of the designers.
There really hasn't been a topic or subject matter that has not had a cake topper created for their particular circumstance.
Same sex marriage cake toppers.  Put the horse before the cart toppers. African American Toppers along with all races and nationalities.  I had an engagement party for my daughter and her fiancé and made my own wedding cake.  That is a story is for another day and another blog....loved making it but wondered why I chose to do so at 3am the morning of the party when I was making fondant flowers.  My daughter and her future husband are both in law enforcement so when I saw this funny cake topper on eBay I knew I had to have it for their cake that night.   There are also toppers to show a little humor and this one certainly does that.  Or, if animation is your thing....  Now of course there are those who might want to make their cake topper very personal and for a price you can do this.  I must admit these cake toppers freaked me out a little bit as they look more like bobble heads than a cake topper. However, there is something for everyone. Just be sure to plan for this type of cake topper.  It is personalized and will take some time to produce and also good photos will be necessary to provide to them.  Of course, there are other options than having little Mini Me's sit on top of your cake.  You can chose from etched glass that has your names and wedding date on it or even a sweet quote.  Another idea that I think is lovely and very classy is having a rhinestone letter of the married name perched on top.  Keep in mind I am the glam mom and am naturally drawn to those things that sparkle.      This is a fun purchase and something you could also include on your registry list as a gift for your engagement or shower.  Happy Weddings and Many Kisses,  Deborah Stilettoswww.Facebook.com/MyDaughterIsGettingMarriedSubscribe to our blog so you don't miss anything
