With the announcement of the Tesla Model S Plaid variant on Tesla Battery Day, Elon Musk has once again excited his fans. The specs of this new variant of the Model S are so impressive that EV enthusiasts have started to compare it with the company's electric sports car Tesla Roadster.

Today we are going to give an overview of electric cars and their specifications, and at the end we will discuss which one is the best deal.

Since the Model S Plaid variant and the Roadster are not commercially available, we'll be comparing the two cars based on their specs on paper.

So let's start with this frontal comparison.

Tesla Model S Plaid Vs Tesla Roadster

Before we get started, here's a quick rundown of these two electric vehicles.

Tesla Model S is the flagship electric sedan of the American electric vehicle manufacturer. Currently, performance and long range variants of Tesla Model S are available in the market. Recently, the automaker unveiled its latest variant, the Model S Plaid, with some big improvements. The Model S Plaid variant would hit the market at the end of 2021; however, customers can book it online through their website.

On the other hand, we have Tesla's one and only Sports Electric Car Roadster. Similar to Model S Plaid, people can book Roadster online at the company's official website. An interesting fact about the EV is that Elon Musk sent a Cherry Roadster unit into space in 2017.

Most of you already know that in terms of specs, Tesla Roadster is quite ahead of the Model S Plaid. Still, there is a significant margin between the price of these cars which can change an individual's overall preference.

Acceleration

According to Tesla, Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 1.9 seconds. For the Model S Plaid, Tesla claims it can do 0-100 km / h in under 2.0 seconds, which means it could be anywhere from 1.9 to 2.0 seconds.

While less than 2.0 could also mean something below 1.9 seconds, that's very unlikely. Considering the exact acceleration value of the Model S Plaid will be less than 2.0 seconds, we can say that this is pretty close competition.

Electric range

The current Tesla Model S has a maximum electric range of 402 miles. However, the next Plaid variant will have an EPA range of over 520 miles.

On the flip side, the Tesla Roadster will have an electric range of 620 miles, which is almost 100 miles longer than the Model S Plaid.

Top speed

Officially, the Tesla Model S Plaid will have a top speed of 200 mph, while the Roadster will be able to reach a top speed of 250 mph.

Price

The electric vehicle maker has priced the S Plaid model at $ 139,900. Meanwhile, Tesla Roadster has a price tag of $ 200,000 and $ 250,000 for its Founder series.

So which one is the best deal?

Although Tesla Roadster is ahead of its sibling Model S Plaid across the board, it's way too expensive at the same time. On paper, Roadster is clearly a winner, but it costs $ 60,000 compared to the Model S Plaid. We could buy Tesla Model 3 or Model Y within this range.

In addition, there are some things that one might not be aware of.

The S Plaid model will be available to customers by the end of 2021. However, when we talk about the Roadster, there is still no confirmation from the manufacturer as to its final release date. Based on our research, we expect Tesla Roadster to hit the roads in 2023 or early 2024.

By then, the S Plaid model will surely have better specs than now. Moreover, looking at Tesla's past record, it is also possible that the electric car will become more affordable.

Is it worth the wait for Tesla Roadster?

If we consider the price and availability of both cars, then for many people, an electric range of 520+, a top speed of 200mph would be sufficient. On top of that, the Model S Plaid is as fast as Roadster. In this scenario, it would be a better choice for people to buy the S Plaid model. Additionally, the Model S Plaid is the best choice for people looking for an electric sedan instead of a sports car.

However, the Tesla Roadster is sportier and more muscular than the Model S. It can accommodate four passengers, which is not common in sports cars. If someone is more into a sports car and is on a budget, then Roadster is one of the best options. Nevertheless, they will have to wait a few years to get their hands on this fantastic electric sports car.

Either way, it mainly depends on the demands of the individual that lead to a final decision.
