Teenaged Sons Who Killed Their Abusive Father Remanded

Two children who killed their father because they were unable to tolerate his abuse, together with a friend of theirs have been produced before the Chavakachcheri   Magistrate’s Court day before yesterday (1) and remanded in custody until April 12. The three who were remanded are the two brothers Shivakumar Jenkan (20), Shivakumar Pavithran (19) residents of Mirusuvil, Jaffna and a friend of theirs named Yoganadhan Sindusan (21).

They have hacked to death Sivasodhi Shivakumar alias Karate Shiva (44). Police said that his wife had left him about one and a half years ago, abandoning the two children, unable to tolerate his abuse.

Police said both brothers had studied up to the A-Level and the 19-year-old younger one is awaiting results. Neighbours had told the police that this man who was killed was abusing his children and wife and assaulting them inhumanely. The police said that he is a farmer and is strongly addicted to alcohol. During investigations it has been revealed that he engaged in these assaults both when he was drunk and when he was sober.

The police said the murder had taken place, early morning on March 31. A senior police official said that during investigations it has become apparent that when the father was assaulting the boys, they had acted against him and then killed him.
