Tech Highlight of the Week: WD’s My Passport Slim

By Ethel Merioles @kaxmerio

Recently I've just gotten wind of the fact that one of the best hard drive manufacturers in the world--Western Digital-- has launched a new external hard drive perfect for people on the go! This ultra portable external storage device is called My Passport Slim and comes in two capacities: 1TB and 2 TB (Although the 2 TB capacity will be available later in the quarter.)

Saw some of the best hard drives at the SM Annex store

The 1TB My Passport Slim for PC

In spite of the significant amount of storage capacity, the 1TB Slim drive measures 4.33 x 3.14 x 0.48-inches, making it easily portable for mobile users (like you, me, and nearly every millennial in the world!)

Best things about the My Passport Slim drives? Both use USB 3.0 connectivity to make file transfers quicker on computers featuring USB 3.0 connectivity. And the drives are backward compatible, being capable of working on USB 2.0 ports as well! Apart from a beautiful metal exterior, huge storage capacity and fast connectivity, these portable hard drives come with WD SmartWare Pro backup protection and hardware encryption.

Not to be outdone, there are lots of external hard drives for Mac.

..like the 8TB heavyweight Thunderbolt Duo.

It may take me a few months to save up on this My Passport Slim portable hard drive, but I'm sure it's going to be worth every centavo! The hard drives are protected by a 3-year limited warranty and will be available at selected retailers in the Philippines, and as of October 22, the My Passport Slim 1 TB has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of PHP 5,190, and the My Passport Slim 2 TB is slated to set you back PHP 8,490.
