Teaching Notes: The Excellence of God and His People (Part 3)

Christ’s Excellence
His Position as God
- John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- Hebrews 1:8 – But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
- 1 John 5:20 – And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
- John 1:18 – No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
- Romans 9:5 – Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
- Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
- Matthew 1:23 – Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
- Titus 2:13 – Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
- 2 Peter 1:1 – Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
His Position as Lord
- Acts 2:36 – Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
- Romans 10:9 – That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
- Philippians 2:11 – And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- Colossians 2:6 – As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.
- Acts 10:36 – The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
- John 20:28 – And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
- 2 Peter 3:18 – But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
- 1 Corinthians 2:8 – Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
- Revelation 17:14 – These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
- Revelation 19:16 – And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.
His Position as Alpha and Omega
- Revelation 1:8 – I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
- Revelation 21:5-6 – And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
His Position as the Living One
- Revelation 1:18 – I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
His Position as the Holy One
- Mark 1:24 – Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
- Acts 3:14 – But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you.
His Position as The “I AM”
- John 8:58 – Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
His Position as Equal with God
- John 5:18 – Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
- John 10:33 – The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
- Philippians 2:6 – Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.
His Position as One with God
- John 10:33 – The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
- John 17:22 – And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
His Position as the Fullness of God
- Colossians 2:9 – For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
His Position as Worshipped
- Matthew 2:11 – And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
- Revelation 5:11-14 – And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
- Hebrews 1:6 – And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
His Position as Israel’s Messiah
- Matthew 16:16 – And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
- Acts 17:3 – Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
His Position as God’s Son
- Mark 1:1 – The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
- John 20:31 – But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
His Position as the Word of God
- John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- John 20:31 – But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
His Position as the Lamb of God
- John 1:36 – And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
His Position as the Head of the Church
- Colossians 1:18 – And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
His Position as King
- John 19:19-21 – And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
- John 12:13 – Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
His Position as the Author of Life
- Acts 3:15 – And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
His Position as Judge
- Acts 10:42 – And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
- 2 Timothy 4:8 – Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
His Position as Mediator
- 1 Timothy 2:5 – For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
His Position as High Priest
- Hebrews 4:14 – Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
His Position as the Morning Star
- Revelation 22:16 – I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
