According to ANAMBRA PEOPLE, the Anambra state government has shortlisted a total of 6,250 candidates for the teacher recruitment interview.
On Wednesday, the state's Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, told journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital, that the decision was part of the resolutions reached at the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting, which was held at Government House on Tuesday.
He stated that ANSEC determined that a total of 6,250 candidates had been shortlisted following the last teachers' Computer Based Test; 3,250 for Primary School and 3,000 for Secondary School; and that the oral interviews would begin on July 27th, 2022 and would last for two weeks, adding, "The interviews, which will come in batches, will hold at Igwebuike Grammar School Awka; St John of God Secondary School, Awka and ASUBEB, Awka."
In other news, the Commissioner announced that the state government intends to extend the removal of illegal structures that deface the environment and endanger lives beyond Onitsha in the coming weeks.
"It has come to ANSEC's attention that the lands of many community secondary and primary schools have been massively encroached on by some communities and developers," he said.
"This is unacceptable, and the government is working hard to recover these lands within the legal framework; as part of that effort, the government is working to quickly amend land laws to criminalize land grabbing."
The Commissioner went on to say that, as a responsive government, ANSEC had formed a committee to review payment claims by previous administration contractors to determine if contracts were awarded in accordance with due process, if they were completed or not, and other factors before payments would be considered.
He stated that the committee's members include the Finance Commissioner as Chairman of the Committee, the Accountant General, the Department of Public Procurement, the General Manager, and the Commissioners for Works, Housing, and Power, and that they had until September to complete their work.
He stated that at the ANSEC meeting, a revenue committee was formed, which included the Chairman of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Richard Madiebo, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Obinna Ngonadi, the Special Adviser for Medicals and Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Godwin Nnadozie, and the Managing Director of the Information Communication Technology Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Agbata.
The committee's responsibility, according to the Commissioner, was to disaggregate the various revenue waste management through the demand notices issued in order to determine where more effort would be channeled.
"The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Cui Jianchun, presented a souvenir to Governor Chukwuma Soludo through the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Chief Don Onyenji," Nwosu said. The souvenir is a token of friendship in anticipation of the envoy's visit to Anambra state later this month, when the plan to establish a Cultural Centre in the state will be finalized."
