Teacher Gets Two Years RI, Ordered to Pay Rs.150,000 for Assault

A maths teacher of a national school in Colombo, who was convicted of assaulting a school student for misbehaviour in the school, was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years by the Colombo High Court.

The judgment was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja. He also ordered to te teacher to pay a compensation of Rs.150,000 to the victim student.

In addition to that, the judge ordered the accused to pay a government fee of Rs.1500 and if he does not pay the said fine and compensation, he also sentenced a lenient imprisonment of six months each separately.
