Tamra, newly opened, 189 seater ,all day dining at Shangri-La’s experience was about emotionally indulging in sensual hunger killer as you partake each morsel!
Tamra translates to copper in English and is derived from Sanskrit word tamrapatra. Copper utensils were used in ancient time for cooking as copper is good especially for the liver and brain. This place utilizes lot of copper elements.
The moment you enter the restaurant, you will notice on your left, a very elegant bar that stocks, world’s finest spirit. There is also an excellent desert section and huge state of the art baking oven technology machine called Wenz 1919 - oe of the most sophisticated oven in the world.More on Wenz 1919 - http://www.miwe.com/product_baking_wenz_1919_en,10050.htmlNext is the seating area, smartly designed by one of the finest design company -Stickmen Design). You have multiple sections - Japanese counter where you enjoy teriyaki cooking, Pan Asian and Indian food, close to live kitchen. The section that delighted me was the seating area that overlooked the garden and you enjoy the serene greens.
Now let’s discuss food. One thing which you will notice is perhaps for the first time, someone has considered keeping separate sections for vegetarian and non-vegetarian section in kitchen as well as the spread. Be it their live grill or their Japanese or indian kitchen – the demarcation was very thoughtful! Executive Chef Martin Bracker has smartly designed the menu, keeping in mind domestic as well as international visitor.
As I sipped the guava based refreshing fruit mock-tail, which was a welcome drink served in an interesting mug taki taki, I looked forward to experience the food at TamraI started my lunch with sushi and sashimi platter that had extremely delicious tuna and salmon rolls. It was gorgeous and glistening with bright colors that gave an artful dining experience – one of the best sushi’s in town! Personally I would recommend their grill section which has some amazing seafood and meats. I tried the grilled prawns and lamb chops that were well cooked and extremely delicious. I must say that their buffet spread is very well designed and you have an option to choose from pan Asian to Indian to hot station. In the main course I opted for Indian as well as pan Asian. I loved the Indian spread. Mutton was superbly cooked and meat was almost falling off from the bones that make the dish succulent!
We finished our meal with tamra chocolate that was outstanding. A variety of cheese cakes – “SAY CHEESE! CAKE’S” was fluffy and delicate! Tamra also has amazing range of gelato and I have promised myself to savor them next time
With the kind of service, spread, lustrous cuisine, outstanding food – TAMRA will give run for money to lot of buffets in town. Having said that, TAMRA for me tops the chart of being the favorite headway for indulgence!
