Taco Tuesday at Motel Mexicola, Seminyak, Bali

By Winyeemichelle
One of my greatest loves on the planet is the art of the taco. The humble taco. I love how once you begin living in The Real World and interact with colleagues, etc. it’s the small things that get you through the week: Taco Tuesday, Thirsty Thursday… I bloody love Taco Tuesday.
Back in November, Harvey and I were kindly invited to the infamous Motel Mexicola bar and restaurant in Bali. Situated in Seminyak, the bustling tourist-popular area of Bali, we hopped on our bike and drove down to enjoy a feast with their wonderful team.
Motel Mexicola is an incredibly welcoming restaurant by day and infamous, known-by-all bar by night. Serving up a bespoke menu curated by the restauranteur himself, the food is absolutely incredible. Let us help you decide what to eat…

Taco party

Our host kindly treated us to a selection of his favourites from the menu. Seated at a bar table overlooking the courtyard of the building - and let me tell you, the building is beautiful - we were plied with a huge pina colada (mine) and a cheeky ol’ tequila shot (Harvey’s). The drinks menu is all formulated with a slight twist that’ll certainly leave you wanting more. In fact, Harvey and I were gutted that we didn’t really have enough time to head back for another meal there!
Baja tacos: tender, crumbles as you eat. Nothing better than fish in a taco with delicious, flavour-full salsa!
De Cangrejo tostadas: made with blue swimmer crab, lime mayo and avocado. SUCH a winning combination of flavours.
Pancita Guisada: a moreish, tender braised pork belly with an insane tomato and chilli sauce, served with Mexican rice. Definitely one to share - we had this between three of us. I loved the meat but felt the sauce was a little rich for my liking.
Carnitas de Pato: my personal favorite of the meal! Aromatic duck with a delicious green chilli, white onion and coriander dressing. The meat was tender, flavoursome and cooked just-right.
And might I say, I couldn’t rave more about the wonderful wait staff at Motel Mexicola! Everybody was so welcoming and happy to help us select dishes, top up drinks and just chat to us about what was going on in Seminyak. If you’re visiting Bali and are worried about discovering food in places that’ll speak English, Motel Mexicola are your guys! (But do please please give the local warungs a go too - nothing meets local mee goreng bought by your boyfriend on a bike and eaten at 4am by the private pool!)
