I trust you have read my previous blog publication 'Sydney, Australia - The Land Down Under' because it begins my epic New South Wales adventure back in 2001 and 2002. Our month in Sydney, Australia was that full packed I could not find a place for all the happenings for one blog without compromising the quality of the publication, well you can be the judge of that. Be ready for a tale of beaches, stadiums, mountains and sweet shops! It sounds like my kind of holiday!
'Bondi Beach!' Yes we went to the world famous beach thats publicised worldwide. I won't lie the beach was so crowded, well over crowded actually. Me, my brother and stepsister all made it to the shore and caught a few grains of sand to remember being there. I had imagined the beach to be less crowded but I suppose thats just the ways things are. We saw 'Bondi Beach!' It was a complete different experience for each beach that we discovered, but 'Bondi' possessed a special significance. The weather was a scorcher and the sand was even hotter so to cool off we found a intriguing looking pub called the 'Hogs Breath Cafe,' a place which sure had character supposedly served a good beer. A 12 year old me wasn't allowed to sample the beverages but I have every faith that if this place still exists when I revisit in the future I can make that decision for myself about the beer!
Our month on the other side of the world was turning out to be a right adventure! Seeing new places and spending time together as a family was quite special, it's got to be one of those times that I shall cherish! We had seen monuments, beaches, new places, seen a new continent and being reunited with a dear family member! Surely we had seen everything? Wasn't the 'Sydney Harbour Bridge' and 'Opera House' enough for us to discover? I suppose you will just have to keep reading to find out our next journey into the Australian unknown! Were we done with our holiday? I just don't think so!
Do you remember the summer of 2000? Well it was the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia! I had the opportunity to experience a stadium tour with my family. It was a great day to see the many different parts of the stadium that was once used for the Summer Olympics. We saw the podiums for the gold, silver and bronze winners, the running track and viewed the main stadium round from a height! It was a really good day to say that we had see where an Olympics games had actually taken place. You might be thinking why the stadium in the photo to the right displays 'ANZ Stadium' I guess that time has passed and that new sponsorship deals have been secured for this stadium because Sydney's Olympic days are over. Years have passed, there have been three more 'Olympic Games' since 'Sydney' which have been in Athens, Beijing and even London! We are all gold medalists in our own right because life is a constant challenge, you could say I have a way with words?!
The 'Blue Mountains' became our adventure for one afternoon, amongst many stops on a great day trip seeing the mountains was out of this world! I'm not one for heights but I put my fears aside for one day because for what I saw over the mountains edge was immense! The sun reflected onto the surrounding mountainous terrain with a blue tint, hence the name the 'Blue Mountains'. The tour we went on must have took us to a number of places because I remember the constant driving, I look back and know that the day was great! Aside from our visit to the 'Blue Mountains' we saw many other points of interests, including a quaint sweet shop that sold some alternative sweets and chocolate. I must say that the mountains and the sweet shop had to be two of my top points of the day! It was amazing to see the beautiful scenery away from the cityscape that is Sydney, you could say that we got the best of both worlds during our trip to Sydney, Australia.
I think I have covered every part of my family trip to Sydney, Australia and believe that my memory has served me well because I have surprised myself with the amount of places I have remembered! I speak from my heart to say that this trip was amazing, more than amazing it was a once in a lifetime trip that I don't think could be topped! Looking at these two blog publications I still cannot believe it has took two blogs to describe and rediscover the many different things about this memorable trip. Goodbyes are never easy, but we said a not so fond farewell to my two aunts who stayed on in Australia to travel to different parts of the country. Our return flight felt equally as long as the outbound flight, but this time we flew via San Francisco, USA! We only saw the airport as our transit time was only three hours, however I have a feeling that a visit to San Fran will be on the cards in the future! Anyway! It begs the question, would I go back to Australia in the future?
A return visit back to Oz is definitely on the cards! I understand that traveling to this part of the world can be a very expensive thing, but throw a monthly wage into the equation and hopefully a job in the airline industry my dream will become a reality a lot sooner. I would love to experience Sydney again, but from a whole different perspective. Discovering areas of the city like 'Darlinghurst' to enjoy the nightlife as I have done some online investigating, it does look fabulous! Also I would like to recapture the vibrancy of this city once again as it has been a considerable length of time since I made the trip to Sydney, Australia back in 2001 and 2002.
I want to see the 'Northern Territory' like the queens from 'Priscilla Queen of The Desert' by visiting 'Uluru' and also the 'Kakadu National Park'. Alice Springs is also in my sites as it's a place where my aunts spent time living there whilst they traveled around Australia. Melbourne and Adelaide would definitely be in my sights but I would have to look at budget factors as this trip will definitely require a lot of planning and money! Who know's what the future will hold? I could be a flight attendant making stopovers in Australia on a monthly basis, so my ambition of a grand expedition might not need to be considered?
Australia I Will Be Back !!! Uluru Like Priscilla Did !!! Get To Australia Now !!!Joseph Harrison
