Story: Swing Bout starts on the night of a big boxing event. The promoter Micko (Prendergast) isn’t pleased with how the card is shaping up and wants to shake it up. However, Micko runs a promotion that throws fights. The latest card sees young boxer Tony (Berkeley) getting the shot of a lifetime against Vicki (Cronin).
Tony sees this as her chance to make a name for herself, but her trainer, Emma (O’Riordan), must break the news of her role in the fight. As the night rolls on, Micko finds his past catching up with him, and Tony must make a decision that will defy her future.
Verdict on Swing Bout
Recap
The movie follows the behind-the-scenes events of a boxing event. A young boxer is given a massive opportunity but must follow instructions. Elsewhere, the tension flies, and the promoter’s past begins to catch up with him.
Best Parts
The movie does an excellent job of showing the tension behind the scenes at a boxing event. It uses the chaos behind preparing for the big night and shows the ups and downs which can come their way. What takes this another step ahead of the game is not showing the boxing, just the hype behind the fights and the aftermath of others. The performances are fantastic and bring the colourful characters of this world to life.
Worst Parts
This is more about expectations, as people who go in wanting to see a boxing in-ring action movie, they will not get any of that.
Final Thoughts –Swing Bout is an intense, chaotic movie.
