Sunday Serenade with 2 Kids and Tired Book Reviews

By Anovelsource @thenovellife

Today we are serenading special blogger Holly from 2 Kids and Tired Book Reviews.  As a busy mom, wife, homemaker, and community volunteer, Holly still finds time to be a strong presence in the book blogosphere.  Please help me serenade Holly

Q:  What do you do when you’re not blogging or reading?

A:  I have a wonderful husband and two fantastic boys who are my priorities in life.  I am an unabashed homemaker.  I cherish the roles of wife and mother. I also do transcription and freelance editing, both of which I can do at home and I am active in my church.  Currently I work with the young men in the scouting program as Advancement Coordinator and I enjoy it.  Organization and administrative work comes easy for me.  Ideally I get my transcription and editing work done during the day while the boys are at school but that doesn’t always happen.  As organized as I try to be, I’m also very good at procrastinating or getting sidetracked with a book or blogging or girlfriends.  And, I love to cook.  My husband has said that food is my love language and he’s probably right.  I love being able to take a meal to someone who needs it and I love cooking for my family. We eat dinner together nearly every night.  I have a cooking blog in addition to the book one and I love reviewing cookbooks and trying new recipes.

Q:  I love that “unabashed homemaker!”  It sounds like you are wonderful wife and mom.  And with all that you have going on how do you carve out time for blogging (on 3 blogs too!),  reading, family and life?

A:  Reading happens whenever and where ever I can make it happen.  I always have a book in my purse and I read in the car while I’m waiting to pick up my son from school.  I read while standing in line at the pharmacy or post office.  I’ve been known to read in the theater while waiting for a movie to start.  Blogging happens during the day when my boys are at school or sometimes in the evenings.  I try not to let computer time interfere with my family life.  But, I don’t watch television (except for Castle, Tuesday mornings on Hulu!) so if the boys are watching something, I’ll often sneak in some blog time.  We have a computer in the kitchen for the boys’ use and I can blog or surf while still being with them.  My family comes first.  My boys and my husband are my priorities.  I have a large extended family as well and I talk to my mother several times a week. My husband and I like daytime dates and going out to breakfast or lunch and sometimes a matinee.

Q:  Hulu is my go-to for keeping up with my favorite shows.  Goodness knows I can never seem to catch the shows during the original air time!  And I imagine as much as your family means to you, I would daresay, you probably mean as much if not more.   Describe your favorite place to read and why you love it so much.

Holly’s To Be Read Stack

A:  Curled up on my couch with a blanket and cup of cocoa and, in the cooler months, the fireplace.  At the moment, it’s really the only place I have to read unless I’m lying on my bed.  But, if I do that, I fall asleep.

Q:  Sounds like the perfect evening!  If you could speed-date any author, who would it be and what would you ask?

A:  Well, being that I’m very happily married, I’d skip the speed dating part .  However, I think it would be fascinating to sit down with JK Rowling and just chat.  I adore the Harry Potter series and while there is a lot of information available about Ms. Rowling, I’d love to just visit with her.  No set questions, just a conversation between two women who are both wives and mothers and readers.

Q:  Oh, oh, oh! I love that idea…can I hang out a bit with y’all? I’ll bring the English tea and hot cocoa.  If your life could be summed up in a book or a movie title, what would it be?

A:  Is a song title ok instead?  Because Phil Vassar’s “Just Another Day in Paradise” fits my life.  My life is often loud and it’s often busy.  It’s not perfect and we have our challenges, but it’s good and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Holly, you are the kindest, most positive person in the entire blogosphere.  Your dedication and devotion to your family is such a beautiful testimony to mommy-hood.  I love that you see your life as “Just Another Day in Paradise.”  Thank you for joining us today so that we may serenade you and your accomplishments.
