Summer Releases in Science Fiction and Fantasy

I wanted to take a minute to send people to I09’s list of summer reads in science fiction and fantasy. I love their book lists because they cover so many different types of books. Whether you read science fiction or fantasy, it seems like there’s something for everyone here, and not just the usual suspects.  You may have heard of Jim Butcher, Seanan Mcguire, John Scalzi, and James SA Corey — but I’m guessing you haven’t heard of most of these authors.

And since a lot of these are fairly new authors, I found a bunch of them on Netgalley, so here’s what I get to read this summer:

• The Memory Garden by Mary Rickert – released May 6, 2014 (Sourcebooks) — about a 16 year old girl who begins to wonder if the local rumors are true that her mother is a witch.
• The Girl in the Road by Monica Byrne – released May 20, 2014 (Crown Publishing) – about two women in a future time, both traveling towards Ethiopia.
• California Bones by Greg Eekhout – released June 10, 2014 (Macmillan-Tor/Forge) — about a thief in future Los Angeles, who has to break into a storehouse of magical artifacts and retrieve an object of untold power.
• Child of a Hidden Sea by A.M. Dellamonica — released June 24, 2014 (Macmillan-Tor/Forge) — about a woman in San Francisco who’s suddenly transported to the ocean world of Stormwrack.

Of course, I already have too much to read, so I09 and Netgalley really aren’t doing me any favors. It’s a good thing I didn’t get ALL the books I requested!  Still it’s my own fault.
