The Nassfeld is well known as a ski resort in Kårnten (Carinthia in English), Austria’s most southern state. With 110km of ski tracks it’s a skiers paradise but shouldn’t be neglected the rest of the year. I was there in summer for an action packed couple of days.
The Nassfeld offers exceptional hiking and climbing trails ranging from short to all day trails. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to hike in the Nassfeld when I was there, but will definitely be back. From a quick scan of the mountains I saw several trails that were calling my name, so I’ll definitely be back.
Many of the trails are reached from the Milleniumsbahn, a gondola that whisks you up high into the mountains, so that you already have amazing views from the start of your hike. Even better, if you stay at the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia conveniently located at the base of the ski resort you will receive a free +Card, meaning a free gondola ride. There’s even a children’s hiking trail at the top of the gondola with twists along the way – like a trampoline and a water feature.
There’s also a Flying Fox and a Rock Labyrinth Adventure Course. The Flying Fox was one of the of the fastest I’eve ever been on. I loved the Rock Labyrinth Adventure Course as well, even though some of the challenges made my arms shake and realize that I need to do more pushups. There are a couple of different options and courses depending on your abilities and even a course designed for kids, so it’s very family friendly.
Besides that there are also ample mountain biking tours and pristine mountain lakes for swimming. I could have easily spent a week there. Some guests at the nearby Hotel & Spa Bleibergerhof, located just 30 minutes away stay for as long as two weeks. And one very special guest at the Hotel & Spa Carinzia has stayed for 7 years! After visiting the Nassfeld, I understand why.
Where to Stay When You Go to the Nassfeld:
- Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia is conveniently located right at the base of the Nassfeld Ski Area. Be sure to unwind in the luxurious spa while you’re there.
- Another option is the Hotel & Spa Belibergerhof in Bad Bleiberg, located ~30 minutes away from the Nassfeld Ski Area. It’s seclusion is perfect for couples looking for a quiet romantic get away as is the no children policy implemented for most of the year.
Note I was a guest of Falkensteiner Hotels. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
