Suitable berries for use in flower bouquets

Flower arrangements do not strictly consist of fresh flowers. You can use several elements like dried materials, artificial flowers, and even berries. Berries are great for adding colour, texture and filling up spaces in between. Florists like to use several kinds of berries and they can used for handheld bouquets, table arrangements, corsages, boutonnières, and more. Some of the most popular berries include:

  • St John's Wort berries come from the main plant. They are also called hypericum berries and they are available in green, yellow, pink, red, and burgundy.
  • China Berries are yellow and, unlike some other berries, they are not clustered together.
  • Beautyberry comes in several varieties. Some of the most popular being the American, Chinese, and Japanese beautyberry. Another name for these berries is callicarpa and they are grouped together on a single stem. The purple variety is referred to as Early Amethyst.
  • Seeded eugalyptus are available in green, yellow,and white. They are made up of the immature flower pods and are found between the leaves of the plant.
  • Snowberries grow in clusters of 5 to 10 and they are available in red, pink, and white. There are several varieties including Mexican, Mountain, Roundleaf, and Creeping Snowberries.
  • Winterberries are popular for several types of bouquets. Ilex or American winterberries are also known as Holly berries and they are often added to Christmas flowers due to their striking red colour. Other varieties include Sparkle Berry, Winter Gold, Winter Red, and Oosterwijk.
  • Juniper berries are popular due their beautiful dark purple colour. The young berries are actually green.
  • Waxberries are often used to make candles and this is why they are often called Candleberries. They are usually available in purple, red, and burgundy.
  • Brunia is native to Australia and is quite large. They are used in various types of arrangements.
  • Rose hips are often used for medicinal purposes and they are usually red or orange. They are also sometimes found in dark shades of purple and even black.
  • Privet berries used in flower arrangements are usually dark purple or black in colour. There are, however some green and white varieties.
  • The Pepperberry grows from the Schinus tree. It has a somewhat peppery sell which is why this name was chosen. There are two main types - hanging and upright. The one you choose will depend on the type of flower arrangement.
