Jennifer of Less than a Pineapple
I’m really happy to introduce to you Gold Coast (Queensland Australia) blogger Jennifer of Less than a Pineapple
What is the secret to great style?
There are heaps of do’s and don’t out there about what you should or shouldn’t wear… for me, great style is about knowing what suits your body shape, dressing in clothes that fit and owning whatever look you are going for… If I don’t feel fantastic in something I change, no matter how many other people tell me it looks great…
What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?
I wish there was only one thing… despite writing a blog about fashion under $50, I still manage to go over that limit on occasion. If I love it, and I can afford it, I don’t sweat it. Shoes are my weakness though.. Particularly boots, I have about 9 pairs and most cost me a fortune… but the leather is beautiful and they last for years so I tell myself they are worth it!

What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on?
Trend based jewelry. There is so much great cheap stuff out there that I balk at paying over $20 for anything…
What are your top tips for looking stylish when travelling?
These days when I travel it’s usually with kids in tow so it needs to be stylish and practical. I usually wear something black and slim lined like a stretchy dress or cigarette pants and a tank, with a kimono jacket over the top… I straighten my hair and add some really big sunglasses and I’m set!
What’s the secret to looking polished?
Oh god I wish I knew!! I think I am one of those people who can look cool… or fashionable… or even stylish… but never polished! It continues to allude me.. One of these days I am going to kidnap an air hostess and force her into giving up her secrets!
Do you have a signature piece or style?
I don’t know if I’d call it a signature piece but the only thing I love about the cooler months is that I get to wear scarves… I have stacks of them and wear them every chance I get. They are a great way to add personality and color to an outfit.
These 16 pieces cost Jennifer less than $240
The one piece of advice most women need but don’t get?
I don’t know if most women need this advice, but the hardest, most essential piece of advice women need is when something doesn’t suit them. A good friend tells another when something is really not doing them any favours.
What’s the best piece of style wisdom you’ve ever received?
I’m quite tall and when I was a teenager my best friend had this awesome black skirt that I was desperate to borrow.. on her it looked fun and cute… on me, it looked basically pornographic.. my mother gently pointed out to me that there are some outfits that look great on others, that don’t necessarily work on ourselves.. despite how much we love them.
Every time I spot a twenty something Japanese girl walk by in knee high socks I need to remind myself of this advice.. gorgeous and fun on them… totally ridiculous on me.
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m too flighty to ever lock myself into one kind of style box… I love dressing up for work in the city in sleek skirts and coats and pearls and gloves.. but in my down time I’m more likely to be found in denim and ankle boots… Can you have a style related multiple personality disorder??
Jennifer’s 4yo son who loves to accessorize
Who are your style icons?
Ordinary people mainly. My cousin, who is also one of my besties, has incredible style. One of my co-workers is flawless as well. Their style is different to my own but they just totally own their look and know what suits them. My four year old son also is a total fashion devotee and knows EXACTLY what he wants to wear each day… he is big on accessories and I tend to let him have his head and it’s really fun watching what he comes up with.
Living in a warm climate can limit your fashion choices a little as well, so I love following some of the So-Cal bloggers for inspiration.
