I'm really happy to be sharing the stylish thoughts of the gorgeously colourful Los Angeles USA based blogger Katie of Hello Katie Girl
What is the secret to great style?Personally, I think being yourself and finding a way to incorporate your "uniqueness" into a signature look is the key to great style. Of course, this is easier said than done, but I definitely think choosing to wear what makes you happy and comfortable as opposed to being a slave to trends is what great style is all about. I am still figuring this out, but I am definitely coming closer to finding a unique voice when it comes to my style.
Three words: fine leather goods. I view shoes and especially handbags as investment pieces. Over the last five years or so I have gone a little crazy when it comes to collecting designer handbags in a vast array of colors and styles, however I see myself being 90 years old and wearing these same bags. Plus, the bags I have bought over the years keep going up and up in price. (I wish I could say the same for the stocks I've invested in!) In my mind these things justify the ridiculous prices that designers are now charging for luxury bags.
Anything trendy. I will admit that it is fun to try a trend if it suits me or for something different, however I always shop for these types of pieces at stores like H&M, Forever 21 or Zara. I know I can get the look for less at these stores, try it out, and then in a couple of years when something new comes along, I won't fell too guilty if I never wear it again.
Color, lots and lots of color. People always comment about how colorful my outfits are either on my blog or in real life. Dressing colorfully may not be for everyone, but I enjoy standing out and to be honest color just makes me happy. It's strange because in person I am a relatively shy and reserved person, especially around people I don't know, but I dress in a very bold, attention-grabbing manner. Often I find that the things I wear tend to be great icebreakers or conversation starters, so perhaps that's another reason for why I gravitate to color and quirky pieces.
I think the unifying theme in my wardrobe would be classics with a quirky twist. I love traditional pieces, but with something unexpected added in like a fun color, detail or an interesting print. I think it's good to find a balance in not just your wardrobe, but in life. Mixing classic with fun and whimsical is my way of doing this wardrobe-wise.
