Stylish Casual Outfits: How to Look Stylish When It Doesn’t Matter

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

I will admit, on weekends when I don't have much to do beyond running a few errands and just hanging around, comfort is my main priority. I will also admit, sometimes I find it hard to care about how stylish I am when it really doesn't matter. I'm just not someone to go out of my way if it isn't necessary even though I do notice that I feel better when I do put a little extra effort forth towards creating stylish casual outfits.

I was thinking about this last weekend when I grabbed my super comfy leggings, easy cotton boyfriend cardigan and ribbed tank top. I added a printed scarf and my gold Tieks and I was quickly reminded that it's really not that hard to look good even on the most casual of days. Whether or not I put makeup on is another story.

So, you see, even I have to be reminded that it really doesn't take that much effort to add a few touches to my casual outfits to look make them look stylish. Take a look at the looks below on how to create stylish casual outfits, even when it doesn't matter.

Stylish Casual Outfits: How to Look Stylish When it Doesn't Matter

Outfit #1

This outfit is similar to what I was wearing this weekend. I styled the look above with a pair of black leggings from Theory, a white T-shirt from Mango and tan boyfriend cardigan from Madewell. On their own, these pieces are really basic, but with the final touches of these cognac ballerina flats from Sam Edelman, a printed scarf from Steve Madden, yellow tote from Modcloth and stud earrings from Stella & Dot, the casual outfit looks more stylish.

Outfit #2

You can't get more basic and casual on the weekends than with a sweater and jeans. As easy as this common outfit is it can also get boring and repetitive. However, gussying up the outfits you wear to go to the grocery store and the bank almost seems like a waste of time. Yet, there is a way to look pulled together without adding a lot to your outfits. Simply try looking for basic accessories that have a touch of novelty to them. Take for example, these silver loafers from Cole Haan. A client of mine just bought them and I was surprised by how adorable and versatile they are.

In the outfit above, I styled these loafers with these dark rinse boyfriend jeans from Lucky Brand, grey sweater from French Connection, and popped the look with a red crossbody bag from Coach, silver star stud earrings from Lord & Taylor and Michael Kors Chronograph watch.

Outfit #3

Once the weather gets warm I find wearing dresses to be a superior solution to creating stylish casual outfits. In this outfit, I used this red dress from Boden and accessorized it with a metallic bag and shoes. First, this perforated tote from 6pm and, next, my favorite casual sandals, the Birkenstock Gizeh. I used this versatile bronze pair. The outfit is finished with a printed scarf and bracelet from Kendra Scott. If you haven't already noticed, scarves make great casual outfit finishers.

Outfit #4

I used to avoid wearing shorts like the plague. But last year I found myself wearing my denim Bermudas quite a bit. If you like shorts, there are ways to wear them in a stylish manner. In the look above, I created this casual look with these khaki shorts from J. Crew, longer length linen shirt in white, flat orange espadrilles from Free People, gold crossbody bag from Calvin Klein and colorful elephant earrings from Modcloth.

Outfit #5

A denim skirt is the perfect replacement if you don't like shorts. This style from Boden is long enough for bending and moving without the worry of exposing yourself. I styled it simply with this basic blush t-shirt from White House Black Market and added this beaded tassel pendant from Nordstrom. Pendants can be easy pieces to just throw on that can add a punch of style in seconds flat. Perfect for super casual days. Finally, I finished the outfit with a grey Baggallini purse and comfort sandals from Cobb Hill.

Stylish casual outfits are easy to create and take little effort. Add some casual flavor to your weekend basics and notice how your looks go from flat to fabulous.
