Last week began with the final preparations for an all-day shoot for a lake house renovation that included a kitchen, mudroom, laundry room and several bathrooms. The week was marked with multiple trips to local shops, online vendors and flea markets for just the right items to style each space in the home. I’ve learned after several photoshoots the value that a stylist could bring to each and every project. I can understand so clearly what an integral role a stylist plays in a photoshoot, as it not only takes a vision to style a space, but it also takes a warehouse of accessories! Perhaps a stylist for photoshoots is somewhere in my future.
The photo above shows a glimpse into the project of the mudroom cubbies before the space was styled and photographed. Our goal was a neutral palette with loads of space for the homeowners’ many houseguests to store their gear, grab a towel, hang a jacket, charge a phone and ditch their shoes for a day at the lake.
And now here’s a photo taken sometime during the styling of the mudroom where accessories are added to enliven the space and to show-off its functionality. It’s a process of trial and error where things are added and moved around and oftentimes taken away until just the right balance is achieved and the stage is set for a photo that captures the space in the best possible way.
Stay tuned for the final professional photos of this project which will be on my website — and which promise to be better than these taken with my phone!
