Stuck on Planet Earth, Rising Q&A + 5 Quick Questions [Single Release]

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Stuck on Planet Earth, have been making music together since 2007. We first caught them live in 2014 during Canadian Music Week. We predicted they were getting ready to break out. They've been working hard, and they've got some exciting news.

The Toronto-based alt-rock band announced they will be touring with multi-platinum rockers Moist on select dates for their upcoming Silver 25th Anniversary Tour. Additionally, they'll be playing some headlining shows around Ontario this fall.

Today Stuck on Planet Earth released their new single Rising via Anthem records. It's now available on all digital platforms.

I had the chance to ask the band a few questions about their origins, the single, the upcoming album, the new video, the tour and more.

Check it out.

Q&A

Q: Would you tell me about how you came together as a band?

SOPE: Adam and Al played in a band together throughout high school, and knew Andrew because he played in Al's cousin's band...then when we were in senior year we decided to come together and start Stuck.

Q: Can you tell me the story of the origin of your band name?

SOPE: Honestly, we just wanted a band name that was original, and was a statement. We all really liked the name Stuck On Planet Earth because the name has a lot of power when you say it.

Q: Who are your biggest influences?

SOPE: We all have different influences, but I'd say some of our combined biggest influences are The Police, Jimmy Eat World, Blink-182, Nirvana, Miguel, Foo Fighters...

Q: Tell me about your first live performance?

SOPE: It's hard to pinpoint our first live concert because we actually started out with this idea of a tour we called The Backpack Tour. We'd basically show up to high schools around Southern Ontario unannounced and play acoustically as kids left for the day. A lot of the time we'd get kicked off school property, or had the cops called on us...but we gained a lot of fans in those early days who have stuck around with us over the years.

Q: What's the best thing about playing together for 12+ years?

SOPE: We're comfortable with each other, we share a special bond, a brotherhood, and we've been through a lot with each other, which has definitely made us a pretty strong team.

Q: What's the worst thing about playing together for 12+ years?

SOPE: We're stuck with each other....

Q: Can you tell us about Beautiful Nowhere?

SOPE: Beautiful Nowhere is our debut album that's coming out in the first quarter of 2020. The album is very personal to us and deals with themes of love, lust, perseverance and self-identity, and we're very proud of the record we've made.

Q: Rising is the upcoming single, can you tell us the story of this song?

SOPE: Rising is a song about pain, sacrifice, and perseverance. Life can get difficult, and we all have personal struggles and challenges, but it's that constant belief and strength to continue going that's embedded within all of us that makes us resilient.

Q: Will there be a video to go with it? If yes, can you talk to us about the video?

SOPE: Yeah we shot a video for the song in July, and we're super pumped to get it out. The video is about this dude who is trying to figure out this extraterrestrial conspiracy that leads him to....well you'll just have to watch when it comes out!

Q: You're heading out on tour with Moist for the Silver 25th Anniversary Tour, can we get some details?

SOPE: Yeah, we're very excited to open for them and were big fans of them growing up listening to Canadian rock radio - We're also playing some headline shows around Ontario...

You can find all of the tour dates for Stuck on Planet Earth here.

5 Quick Questions with Stuck on Planet Earth

Q1: If you're on a road trip, what's the one album you can listen to on repeat?

SOPE: That's a really hard question because one just isn't enough! I'd say our top albums would be Gypsy Kings - Greatest Hits, Dr. Dre's - 2001, Blink 182 - self-titled, Arctic Monkeys - AM, The Police - Reggatta de Blanc, and Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American.

Q2: What can fans expect from a live performance?

SOPE: We try our best to pack a punch in our show. We've been to so many shows over the years that are so boring that you may as well stay home and listen to the record. We want to entertain and bring as much energy to the crowd as possible. We definitely move around a lot and get pretty sweaty. And we try to energize the room.

Q3: Is there a band or artist you think people should be paying more attention to?

SOPE: We toured with this band from Chicago called Fall Classic that we really dig. Also our good friend and the director of our Rising video, Billy Wild, and his brand new Little Fux EP. That's some really great rock 'n' roll.

Q4: Tell us something about you, that even your fans wouldn't know.

SOPE: We love to cook, especially Italian food. Pasta, pizza... all the good carbs.

Q5: Is there anything else you want to share with our readers?

SOPE: We have some more music coming soon, and you can expect our debut album Beautiful Nowhere in early 2020.
