'If one had but a single glance
to give the world,
one should gaze on Istanbul'
Alphonso De Lamartin
This is a collection of pictures I took with my mobile while walking around Istanbul. This city has surprises and beauty around every corner. It may be in a person that I meet or in the beauty of a building. My heart always feels like its spilling over with delight when I go and explore!
A Simit seller close to the Blue Mosque – I wanted to give him a big hug, he was so friendly and kind.
Spice market, Istanbul – The colours and aromas are a feast for the senses and the market is filled with the fragrance of the exotic East.
I love Pistachios and in Istanbul you can buy buckets full of them.
Nargile Pipes – This photo was taken outside a restaurant close to the Grand Bazaar. That's what people do here to relax, drink Çay and smoke a water pipe.
You see alot of Fishmarkets in Istanbul – I find it so exciting to buy fresh fish and with little ingredients create an amazing meal that you know is goodness itself.
You can buy Vine leaves and make Dolmas yourself or as you see in the bottom pictures, just buy Fresh Dolmas as the guy makes them in front of you.
Okay, who wants Turkish Delight? Every flavor you can think of. I love the the double roasted Turkish Delight. I eat them until I can't eat anymore and then I still can't stop eating.
Pomegranates – my happy fruit! You find them everywhere in Istanbul. In the street a guy will press fresh Pomegranate juice for you while you wait and in the bottom picture this restaurant used it as decorations.
Beautiful Blue Ceramic from Turkey!
Istanbul is not Istanbul without all its cats. They say it brings good luck when you give them a little treat.
Turkish Bath since 1445, that's older than the modern South Africa.
