Strawberries and lemons are my all favorite summer time fruit combinations. So it’s no surprise I re-visted this recipe I originally adapted and shared back in 2013. I re-created this A+mazing Strawberry Lemonade that I tastespotted over at Alaska from Scratch. The combination of sweet fresh strawberries with tart fresh lemon juice and lemon zest is a match made in summer heaven. The basic recipe is simple and easy to vary and add your own twist. Feel free to play with it as much as you like. With this lemonade recipe you really can’t go wrong.
Strawberry Lemonade
For the Simple Strawberry Syrup:
3 cups water
1 cup cane sugar
4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced in half
For the Lemonade:
zest of 1 lemon
juice of 4 lemons
1 cup cold water
ice
additional lemon slices and sliced strawberries, optional
In a medium saucepan over high heat, mix together the water, sugar and strawberries. Cook until the sugar dissolves and it becomes a syrup. Remove from heat and set aside to cool while you do the next steps.
To a half-gallon pitcher, add the lemon zest, lemon juice, 1 cup cold water, ice, and lemon and strawberry slices, if using. Stir in the strawberry puree and the simple syrup until well combined. Taste for sweetness and add more cold water if needed.
Refrigerate to chill through or serve over ice.
