Stone Enjoy By 09.13.13 – Piney & Balanced

This was my first time getting a chance to try one of the Enjoy Be Series.

I only other experience with the world of ultra fresh IPA’s was Stone’s RuinTen, which was, in my opinion, one of the greatest IPA’s that I have ever tried.

I left it out  of the fridge a good 45 minutes before i opened the bottle. It pours crystal clear – with an apple juice like amber color, minor light carbonation, that you can see holding the glass to the light.  There was a small white head which slowly shrinks down to a thin ring around the glass.  Lacing is good, nice and long-lasting.

I have always been a fan of the balanced approach to IPA’s.  The sheer bitterness of the West coast style hop wallops, left me slightly turned off to the style.  Surprising enough, coming from one the preeminent West Coast breweries,  it is incredibly balanced – like a chef’s knife balance.

I can not even pick up a hint that this is clocking in at 9.5% ABV, it drinks as easy as the “sessionable” IPA’s.  I had to double-check the bottle to get the ABV, as I would have had this pegged in at 7.5% or so max.

Nose wise it is pure pine,  Taste is similar,  just pine and very little malt presence.  Enough malt to cut the bitter out but not enough to make it sweet.

I am enjoying sipping this as I type,  a pleasure to drink. Even as it is warming up further, the taste has not changed. I’m impressed, and actually want another bottle already.  If I see it on tap some place soon I have to try it, and so do you. Drink up while it is fresh!
