Coronavirus. Most had ever heard of it a few months ago. A lot of people weren’t worried about it a few weeks ago. And now, we’re in the midst of a pandemic. We’re social distancing and quarantining; schools, restaurants, bars, and non-essential places of business are closed for our protection. With no end in sight, it can certainly be scary and cause us to feel anxious, helpless, and in a place of limbo. So today, I wanted to share a few ways we’re staying calm during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Calm App: The Calm app is something I use daily anyways but with everything going on around the world, we’ve been using it even more. It features a variety of options such as meditation, mindfulness, sleep stories, and so much more. It’s a subscription that we pay for yearly but they do offer a 7 day free trial. But I think you’ll be hooked after 7 days and want to continue it!
Exercise: I know that gyms are now closed in Ohio and I’m sure the rest of the country will follow suit. So for me, the Peloton has been a lifesaver. Besides the fact that your body is producing endorphins when you exercise, which relieve stress, it’s also FUN. The instructors are so motivating and uplifting and it’s a great change of pace from a lot of the negativity and stress on social media and the news right now. We’ve had ours for about 6 months and it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done for ourselves. If you are considering purchasing one, you can use my referral code 7SVMQ5 for $100 off accessories. I’m happy to answer any specific questions as well!
TikTok: Okay this one may sort of be a joke but there are some pretty funny videos on there, and the kids and I had some fun making our own as well. Laughter really can be the best medicine sometimes!
Online shopping: With most places of business being closed now, there’s never been a better time to online shop. Not to mention small businesses are especially taking a hit right now and supporting them is vital. If you’re looking to shop small, here are a few of my personal favorite small businesses:
Camo and Caviar
Sanity (use code CHICANDSAM for 15% off)
THD Shoppe (use code THDSAM15 for 15% off)
The Sis Kiss (use code SAM15 for 15% off)
Get outside: Depending on where you live and what the weather is like, getting outside is a literally a breath of fresh air. Go for a walk, a hike, sit by the lake… anything to get outside and move. I saw this article about fresh air and the 1918 Influenza pandemic and it’s super interesting. But there’s something to be said about sunshine and fresh air when treating these types of things. Read the entire article here.
Order food for delivery: It may take a few days to get your order because of the demand of these items right now, but place your order and avoid going to the stores. You can also have the delivery left outside so you never have to come into contact with anyone.
In addition to grocery delivery, I’d also recommend Hello Fresh; we’ve been getting weekly deliveries for years and they are constantly improving their meals and what they offer. They also offer sides, meat, desserts, etc. I just added more meals to our delivery as well as extra meat for stir fry, salads, etc! You can get $40 off your first box by using this link as well.
You can also support your local restaurants by ordering carry-out or delivery. But if even that makes you a little uncomfortable right now, you could always support them by purchasing a gift card to use at a later date.
Stay home: I know this is a simple one but for real, unless you HAVE to leave, try to stay home. There are so many things you can do at home and it’s just not worth it to leave right now. Because of the speed at which this is passed and how long it takes to show symptoms, no one really knows how dangerous it is. Just stay home.. it’s not that bad!
I know that everyone relieves stress differently but I just wanted to share a few ways we’re staying calm during the Coronavirus pandemic. I’m hopeful that the right precautions are being taken and we can flatten the curve as quickly as possible.
We’ve got this friends…stay calm and stay safe <3
