StarkWare, which made scaling solutions for blockchains worth $8 billion last year, said on Monday that it will make its main piece of cryptographic software free for everyone to use.
An Israeli software company called StarkWare has come up with a way to fix Ethereum’s scalability problems, which include low throughput and high gas or transaction costs. Programmers can use the company’s technologies to make decentralized applications with the help of the StarkEx scaling engine and the StarkNet developer platform (dapps). StarkWare plans to give everyone free access to the technology behind STARK Prover.
The announcement was made at the StarkWare Sessions 2023 conference in Tel Aviv, Israel. Even though StarkWare’s open-source strategy has a long way to go before it’s fully implemented, the company has said that it will eventually make its whole technology stack available to creators.
In a statement at the summit, Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and president of StarkWare, said, “Every step we take to provide infrastructure and make it available and decentralized is a spark for developers to innovate.” And the faster and bigger they build, the faster people will start using solutions that give them control over their own money. Self-custody and open-sourcing of critical technologies go hand in hand.
Since the centralized cryptocurrency exchange FTX failed, ideas about crypto infrastructure have been getting more attention. As investors shied away from decentralized currency projects, the amount of money invested in cryptocurrencies dropped by 91% from January 2017 to January 2018. But infrastructure remained the strongest and most profitable part of the industry.
