Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a wookiee and two droids to save the universe from the Empire’s world-destroying battle-station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the evil Darth Vader.
Let’s face it this film is cool, maybe a strange way to start the review but that is just something I have to say about this one after watching it a few times now. The characters are likeable and all have good qualities that we like watching in a film. Ok Luke Skywalker may at times border on slightly annoying but that’s only a couple of times in all honesty. Han Solo is a fantastic character he really just does not care about anything and always wants to get his own way.
Darth Vader . . . Well what an incredible character and quite possibly one of the best bad guys we will ever see in a film? Honestly though I think he might be my favorite character, I know we aren’t supposed to like the bad guys! But he is amazing, considering I am not really the biggest Star Wars fan as well.
This film really does have so much going for it though and you are taken on a fantastic ride. We have fight scenes with the lightsabers, fast paced action sequences and hints of a possible love story. I must also mention Obi-Wan such a great character as well. The Jedi who then starts mentoring Luke Skywalker and they have a good relationship that grows over the course of the film. I can understand why people who watched this film at the time of its release throughly love and enjoy it. I feel the same way about Lord of the Rings as people do about Star Wars, this really is something that is different and pretty much changed everything in terms of action, adventure and sci-fi.
There is something quite magical with this film, it really does have such a nice feel to it and creates the galaxy so much better and in a different way to the three prequels. This one really does just have a nice flow to it all and it is a film that you can really just enjoy to watch from start to finish. It doesn’t have too many little stories and plots to keep up with either, which is certainly a very good thing.
May the force be with you!
