Star Citizen - from Single Player Story - to Multiplayer Sandbox?

solo player becomes multiplayer?

I'm not sure this is the correct way to develop such a thing... you can't turn a single-player single-objective story-driven gaming experience into a multithread multiplayer NPC-driven universe or 'verse.
You need all the multiplayer issues and interface to be worked out, I think I'm right about this, before you can branch off that thing into a STORY SEGMENT or three. Otherwise, "You don't know what you're capable of making."
Why do I say this?
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like all the tech that currently seems to support the advertised Star Citizen sandbox is just stuff the Squadron 42 story needs. Object Container Streaming and Bind CUlling, yeah it needs that, it's a data-streaming game. Landing on planets, it needs that for specific missions. Quantum travel as basic as can be via clunky Star Map and horrid green overlay interface, a floaty name to identify a target, sure they're working on that some to tidy it up a bit, but it's all it needs.
The 'it' being Squadron 42... I think that's all they've really been making all this time. They certainly aren't focussing on correcting all the glaringly non-sandbox issues in their pre-alpha code thus far. It's okay the way it is because it works for Squadron. That's my real fear.
They're, what are they gonna do? They're then gonna add another three years totally redesigning & remaking all the stuff that worked in Squadron so that it works in the multiplayer sandbox arena that is the Star CItizen 'verse? Surely, the wrong way round...
