The things we all hide under the carpet, how much do they hurt others?
Are they costing someone their life and potentials?
I was speaking at a conference last week at the Ministry of foreign affairs (Athens Greece) on Human trafficking, what I heard from some people got me thinking a lot.
We ignore major social problems, just because we all think they aren't our problem to care about.
We feel safe, so we ignore the cry of the unsafe, we speak with numbers and statistics.
We try to cover our backs and then save our lives, not caring if the little piece of information we are withholding is crucial for a fellow human. We hide behind out fingers, we justify our action with religion, family and we find it all too easy to forget thousands of others hurting.
I will not close my eyes to evil,but I cannot take you all with me to the battle.
We all have ourselves to ask , if we are content with our contribution to the world around us.
If we can close our eyes to the evil around us, by not speaking or ignoring the evil we see?
You might close your TV, stop reading newspapers, or watch reality TV and ignore the fact that everyday millions die in their quest for a better life, but that will not stop the madness.
Praying for evacuation of poverty in this world we live in is like asking for a fairytale to come true.
Touch at least one life, speak the truth and educate yourself, so maybe when that day comes, when a 16 years old girl will look at you for help. You will know in you that she is a victim, that the smile on her face is fake and the sorrow in her eyes is real.
