The Inspector General of Police has re-instated Senior Superintendent of Police Romesh Liyanage, who was suspended for assaulting a group of journalists covering a protest opposite President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s residence at Fifth Lane, Kollupitiya.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Waruna Jayasundara, Commandant of the Special Task Force, said yesterday (21) that he was informed of this by the Police Headquarters.
This attack took place on July 9. The Inspector General of Police suspended Liyanage on July 10 after the preliminary investigation report made by the Police Special Investigation Unit regarding the assault was handed over to the Inspector General of Police.
A senior officer of the police headquarters stated that taking into account the completion of the investigations by the Police Special Investigation Unit, steps have been taken to reinstate his service.
