SPQR have made a welcome return with the release of new single ‘Fault Lines’ and news of a tour with JOHN later in the year. Self-produced, the new song had been around for a while before songwriter Peter Harrison decided to revisit it: ‘It’d been around for a long time and never felt right, but everyone knew there was something there. Nothing was happening naturally so I sat down with it and just chipped away until cracks of light began to appear. It was a different approach to how I usually make songs but arguably the end result is more rewarding. Sometimes, you gotta dig for that gold!’

A song about being true to yourself, it opens with chiming melodies and a rampant rhythm section that brings to mind Everything Everything’s more energetic moments before slowing down as Peter sings about being ‘awash with only regret’ over something a bit more brooding and gothic. The pulsating chorus then kicks in with a sing-along feel before the track settles back into something more experimental but no less alluring. It’s an exciting piece of art pop.
