Eight suspects including two Chinese nationals, who were remanded in connection with introducing a software item, known as ‘Sports Chain’, through which they swindled the unsuspecting public who were connected to it, were ordered to be released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday.
They were released on a cash bail of Rs.100,000 and four sureties of Rs.10 million each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on them as well. They were then ordered to report to the CID, between 9am and 12 pm on the last Sunday of each week.
Investigations have revealed that the fraudulent amount exceeds Rs.15 billion. The Criminal Investigations Department had earlier stated that more than 70 complaints were received pertaining to the said fraud. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for March 24.
