Story: Spoonful of Sugar starts when young woman Millicent (Saylor) takes a role as a babysitter. She works for Rebecca (Foster) and Jacob (Olivier) to assist with their sickly mute child Johnny (Crovetti). However, Millicent has a secret, where she has always wanted to help children that she feels are being ignored.

Millicent does receive medical treatment from Dr Welsh (Powell) who is trying to ease her off her medication. As Millicent starts the role, she gets close to Johnny and looks to help him out, believing it to be her reason to be there.

Verdict on Spoonful of Sugar

Spoonful of Sugar is a disturbing horror movie following a young woman that takes a new job as a babysitter. However, she has a much darker side that sees her place in the world as saving children. This sees her getting close to the children she is caring for, as she looks to make her own impact on their life.

The movie does seem to borrow from the already disturbing series of movies including ‘Saint Maud’. This sees a character believing they are a higher power protecting people. We see this growing throughout the film, as we see Millicent’s much darker side of how she operates. This is a very dark movie and it gets everything right with how it unfolds. Director Mercedes Bryce Morgan does an excellent job of creating a sense of misdirection for the way the movie unfolds.

Where to Watch: Spoonful of Sugar is available to watch in Shudder.

Final Thoughts Spoonful of Sugar is a deliciously dark movie.
